About

For many of us, entering into counseling can be one of the most challenging and courageous things we do. In order to take that leap, we need faith and a belief that our life will improve, that things will get better if we seek help. I want to encourage you by reminding you that you are not alone. Although life can be challenging and recovery can be hard, it’s not impossible. We will walk the journey together, one day at a time sometimes, one moment at a time until you’re ready to walk it on your own in fellowship with those who will support you, with a newfound awareness and connection to God.

My Goal as a Christian Counselor

Luke 17:21 says, “. . . behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” In our work together, my goal is to help you remove everything that is not of God and no longer a benefit to your life. As many of us go through challenging experiences either in childhood, adolescence, or adult life, we take on coping skills and behaviors that help us survive. However, those same skills and behaviors can later become detrimental and cause us suffering and harm. Whether it be a behavior, a perspective we’ve taken on, or even an addiction, it is possible to change. My aim is to help you recognize and be free from all that is no longer useful to you, and to empower you to know the strength you have within as well as the strength you have through Christ.

What I Offer in Christian Counseling

I offer the benefit of over 30 years of collective experience in the fields of recovery, education, and health and wellness, integrated together to support you and your walk with God. My aim is to help you apply what we learn and put it into practice in a way that saves you time, money, and unnecessary suffering. I will use my training to not only help you alleviate the unpleasant symptoms you experience but also address and treat the root cause. We will also seek to address any barriers that are hindering you from achieving your specific hopes, dreams, and goals. You can expect moments of creativity and fun as well as healing and growth.

My Approach to Christian counseling

As a Christian counsellor, my approach to counseling is to surrender to God and ask Him to guide each session. This the greatest tool I hold in my belt. Depending on your comfort level and preference, I will invite you to join me in prayer, listening to worship music, and taking time to listen to His guidance. I will also support you with home activities that you can do each day to improve your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. As our sessions progress, I will encourage you to connect and fellowship with other members of faith or support groups, as well as “bookend” goals and activities with those groups or friends to optimize growth.

My Call to Christian Counseling

One of the reasons I wanted to become a counselor is to help others save extensive amounts of time and money searching for solutions from places that don’t help, as well as prevent unnecessary suffering, heartache, or loss. I do this by sharing wisdom gained through my personal experiences, clinical insight and guidance from God. What I’ve learned over time is that each one of us serves God in our own way, focusing on the talents we were given as well as the experiences we’ve been through. It’s heartwarming and satisfying to witness clients awaken their full potential, life purpose, and deeper connection to God.

I am an avid reader and lifetime language learner. I am fluent in Spanish and am learning the basics toe Mandarin Chinese and Portuguese. I love being outdoors and enjoy health and fitness activities including martial arts and calisthenics. I also enjoy public speaking and poetry (written as well as spontaneous).

Anxiety and Depression

As we walk through this journey together, we’ll not only address the symptoms and diagnosis but also the deeper underlining cause. Many times, taking a deeper dive beyond the symptoms not only creates significant reduction in uncomfortable feelings and experiences, but also gives you an opportunity to improve your quality of life. For example, anxiety can show up as activation and excess energy, likely a sign of something deeper we need to address. However, depression can present as lack of energy and motivation. It can also be exhaustion from suppressing emotions or avoiding crucial conversations or decisions we’re not ready to navigate. Together we can find those underlying causes and implement practical skills and practices to show immediate improvement and change for a better life.

Addiction

I know how painful and scary addiction can be, but also know hope is possible.
For several years now I’ve served as the Director of Wellness and Education at a residential Mental Health and Wellness facility. Our main focus is the cross intersection between addiction, trauma, and personal and professional coaching.

I’ve also seen that whether you suffer from chemical or drug dependency, sexual addictions, and/or other forms of process dependencies, there is a way to recover. Even though addiction may have many faces, it usually has the same core factors and solutions. Together we will address your thoughts and feelings, including how our brain and nervous system can be treated through simple practices. We will work to build an active relationship with God that makes it easier to feel more comfortable in your own skin as you seek to live a sober, abstinent, and peaceful life. If you’re already part of a 12-step program, we can also collaborate on how to have a more seamless integration of that program into your treatment plan.

Personal Development and Coaching

Therapy, personal development, and even coaching can be a winning combination to live a healthy, successful, and God-centered Life. It’s incredible how each one complements and supports the other. The very same practices, knowledge, and wisdom used to recover from pain and suffering can also be used to help us reach our full potential. It also saves us from pitfalls that can arise in your business, family, or other aspects of life.

For example, when we’re addressing depression, anxiety, or other challenges, coaching and personal development will give you a vision for your life and steps you can take to achieve it. At the same time, as you work on your visions, hopes, and dreams, you can also address any thoughts, feelings, or traumas that might be preventing you from achieving those goals. Let’s take a look at both together and get you started toward a better and more God-centered life.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or Injury

If you’re suffering from the effects of early childhood, adolescent, or adult trauma, you’re not alone, and there is hope. Many have not only recovered from traumatic events in their lives, but also developed a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them and improved their relationship with God. It’s possible for you to do the same. But recovery from trauma is not a path to be walked alone. Together we’ll look at key factors that can help you recover and be restored.

Spiritual Development

Spiritual development is an exciting journey. It’s one that helps you navigate daily challenges, grow, heal, and experience real miracles in your life. You’ll have the benefit of psychological and therapeutic wisdom integrated with deeper biblical wisdom and grace. We’ll work together to connect more with God, bringing Him into your daily life, personal challenges, and successes. You’ll also be able to work through any hurts, pain, and life experiences that have separated you from that deeper connection with Him.
