With over 20 years of experience counseling teens, couples, and adult individuals, I will provide a calm and patient atmosphere for your healing. I have been married for 22 years and have two teenage daughters. In a world of stress and chaos, my desire is for you to get through the rougher parts of life with a strength, hope, and peace that only God can provide. Whether you’re looking for premarital counseling, marriage therapy, individual counseling for teens or adults related to depression, anxiety, or other concerns, I am here to help. According to Galatians 6:2, as believers, we are to “carry each other’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” I would be honored to help relieve your burdens through proven therapeutic techniques that respect your faith and values.

About

As your counselor, I will provide a confidential, gentle, and calm therapeutic environment. There are many parts of life that we don’t share with anyone. Being able to unload these in a confidential, trustworthy space can reduce stress and increase your ability to have a healthier view of yourself and others. As a Christian counselor, I believe that having a relationship with God is crucial for experiencing the “peace that surpasses all understanding,” even through life’s most difficult times (Philippians 4:7). God either calms the storm, calms the child, or both. I look forward to walking through it with you.

My Goal as a Christian Counselor

My first goal is for you to feel heard and valued. My second goal is for you to experience healing, peace, and a sense of direction regarding how to proceed in a Christ-honoring way as we turn to the One who “comforts us in all of our afflictions” (2 Corinthians 1:4).

What I Offer in Christian Counseling

In our first few sessions, I will invite you to share your story, express your concerns, and discuss your goals as we spend time getting to know each other. From there, we will begin to focus on coping strategies, what might need to change, and how to follow through. I want you to feel encouraged even when you are struggling, knowing you have someone to support you through it. Our God promises He will “never leave us nor forsake us” (Hebrews 13:5).

My Approach to Christian Counseling

Christians are bombarded by secular worldviews and often struggle to find support and guidance from a biblical and Christ-honoring viewpoint. We are to be “in the world but not of the world.” As a Christian counselor, I desire to help other believers exemplify this through the difficult times and decisions in life. Being a Christ-follower is the foundation of who I am and how I receive my strength, peace, and comfort – and I’d love to help you find that same strength, peace, and comfort in Him.

Couples Counseling

Marriage is sacred and is not to be taken lightly. I commend you for seeking assistance. Relationships can be hard to navigate alone; having an outside person help you see each other as God does can strengthen your bond. Together we will consider some of the differences in how God made men and women and how to best use those differences to strengthen your relationship instead of tear it apart.

Premarital Counseling

The wedding is not the beginning of the relationship. It started the first day you met. It will only benefit you and your partner to learn communication skills and work through your needs prior to the covenant relationship of marriage. Studies have shown that premarital counseling can decrease the likelihood of divorce by 30 to 50 percent. I would be honored to help you build a strong foundation for your future marriage, with God’s direction and guidance.

Anxiety

Anxiety is a feeling of a lack of control, and yet as Christians we know Who is ultimately in control. Anxiety is also a fear of the unknown, and yet we know Who knows the future. Feeling anxious is an opportunity to redirect our focus back to God. In 2 Timothy 1:7, we read, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Together we will learn and practice effective techniques to help you manage and redirect your anxiety to overcome the symptoms you face.

Depression

Depression can include mental, emotional, and physical symptoms. We can sometimes try to brush it under the rug, telling ourselves that everyone has a bad day every now and then. Multiple factors can lead to depression, including but not limited to any loss or change in life. It is also sometimes impacted by the way you see yourself. I will walk with you as you work to redefine who you are and Whose you are.

Women’s Issues

Women often struggle with self-worth, anxiety, depression, relationships, communication struggles, and balancing work and family. And yet women who are believers are daughters of the King. Together in counseling, we will address your symptoms and concerns with proven therapeutic techniques while also considering your true identity in Christ and how that impacts the way you live and interact with others.

Parenting

All stages of parenting can be rewarding and difficult at the same time. Our ultimate goal as Christian parents is to lead our children to a relationship with Christ. There are so many aspects of parenting now that we didn’t deal with as children. Counseling can provide you with support and tools to strengthen your parenting as you seek to instill healthy boundaries and God-given wisdom in your children.
