Chris Chandler, MA, LPC, CSAT

Licensed Mental Health Counselor
(469) 333-6163 connect@texaschristiancounseling.com

I believe that addiction doesn't have to be hopeless. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), my intention is to help men and women, through a Christ-centered approach, in healing themselves and their relationship with God. Grace and compassion will be given as you explore what sobriety means to you, identify barriers to sobriety, and form relationships with new people who will support you in recovery. My primary goal is not years of talk therapy; instead, my goal is to help you feel confident and good about life. Recovery is possible.

About

Within my practice, I utilize the work of Dr. Patrick Carnes who provides great emphasis on warmth and understanding during sexual addiction recovery; whether someone demonstrates acting-out or acting-in behaviors. Specifically, I have worked with the following addictive and compulsive behaviors: frequent/excessive sex, frequent/excessive masturbation, pornography, fantasy, sexual anorexia, and codependent relationships. Additionally, I have great experience helping men and women formulate Full Disclosures or Impact Statements to tangibly rebuild their marriages. Within this process, I am happy to meet with your spouse’s counselor to ensure both parties know what to expect and how to move forward.

My Goal as a Christian Counselor

As a Christian counselor, my intention and goal is to invite you to come as you are to heal. It is not my place to cast any judgment on who you are or any actions, thoughts, or behaviors that you have had and/or acted on. I believe that God’s love, support, and Word can have a remarkable effect on recovery, and believe the restoration of your relationship with God is the first step towards recovery.

What I Offer in Christian Counseling

I offer a collaborative and supportive environment for you and God, through individual sessions, as you work through any specific concerns that have brought you to counseling. If I do believe it would be helpful for your healing, I will recommend that you attend a group that I lead. Currently, I run eight men’s groups and one women’s group that have clients who are serious about learning from their mistakes and creating a better future or marriage.

My Approach to Christian Counseling

My approach in Christian counseling is to utilize God’s teachings and values to help rebuild the individual, marriage, and family. As you navigate through your past actions, thoughts, and behaviors, I can help you apply proverbs and biblical stories as you heal and grow in your understanding of God’s Word. Know that whether you are at the inception of your relationship with God or have been a faithful follower for years, God can help open new doors for you and open your heart to change.

Biography

Qualifications & Experience

From 2003-2005, I attended Mars Hill Graduate School and received a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology. Upon graduation, I took a job at Fairfax Hospital to help individuals work through difficult times in their lives, including but not limited to: chemical dependency, self-harm, homicidality, psychosis, and severe suicidality. After five years at Fairfax Hospital, I transitioned to an intensive, outpatient program that helped individuals with co-occurring addictions. These hands-on experiences prepared me to open my private practice in 2008. Since 2008, I have met men and women where they are and helped them become who they were ready to be.

My Call to Christian Counseling

Through continued prayer and meditation, God brought me closer and closer to incorporating His love and Word into my practice. Prior to each day beginning, I ask God how I can best serve Him, how I can best serve my family, and how I can best serve my clients.

More About Me/On a Personal Note

My wife Nina and I have been married since 2010 and have been blessed with three beautiful girls named Frankie, Vivi, and Naomi. When I am not spending time with my family or helping individuals in their recovery, I am serving my church and community in ways that fill my heart with joy.

Services and Specialities

Areas of Expertise/Specialties

Within my practice, I work with people who have specific addictive and compulsive behaviors such as:

  • Sex (Frequent/Excessive Sex, Sexual Anorexia, Frequent/Excessive Masturbation)
  • Love (Codependent Relationships)
  • Fantasy (Pornography, A.I. Relationships, Video Games)
  • Work
  • Overspending
  • Food (Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating)

As I help individuals gain sobriety, stability, and then momentum as they work through their addiction, various other mental health concerns may need to be simultaneously addressed such as depression, ADHD, PTSD, anxiety, OCD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, etc. I have found it to be vitally important to address these diagnoses with addiction therapy to create the best environment for recovery.

Payment and Forms

Availability (by office location):

  • Online Counseling – Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays

Fee: Chris’ rate is $200 per session, this fee is for a 53-minute session. Your initial appointment is a risk free initial session which means that you will not be billed for the session unless you schedule a follow-up session. If you schedule a follow-up session, we will bill for the initial session.

Insurance: As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Licensed Professional (LPCC), most insurance companies will reimburse a portion of the services you receive. If your insurance covers out-of-network benefits, we accept payment for the session and will provide you with a receipt called a Superbill on the 15th of each month following your session. You can submit this receipt to your insurance for reimbursement. We recommend checking with your insurance for information about covered benefits, limitations, and/or exclusions and to confirm the amount of reimbursement you can expect from your insurance.

Cancellation Policy: We have a 72-hour cancellation policy and would appreciate as much advance notice as possible if there is a change in your schedule. Cancellations received with less than 72 hours of notice are subject to the full session fee of $200. We understand unforeseen scheduling conflicts may occur. If you must cancel an appointment at short notice, please check with us as we may be able to reschedule the session for another time that is mutually convenient. This fee may be waived if we can reschedule your appointment within the same week, based on Chris’ availability.

Missed Appointments or late cancellations will be billed to you. We will not bill your insurance for missed appointments or late cancellations. Please note, most insurance companies do not reimburse for missed appointments.

We customarily provide a reminder email prior to your appointment; however, this reminder email is a courtesy and it is still the client’s responsibility to remember and keep track of scheduled appointments.
