About

I offer Christian counseling for teens, adult individuals, couples, families, and groups. Whether you are looking for support for anxiety, anger issues, teen therapy, premarital counseling, depression, grief, trauma, or other concerns, I would be honored to walk alongside you as you navigate the path toward healing and hope, with God’s help. I believe all things are possible with God, and He is able to take your circumstances and give you peace and joy in Christ in the midst of your trials.

My Goal as a Christian Counselor

My goals as your counselor are for you to realize your purpose, to grow in your faith, and to live the best life possible even in the midst of your challenges, trials, and struggles. The Lord truly wants the best for us, but we need to do our part by acknowledging Him and accepting His will. As your therapist, I will walk with you as we uncover God’s perfect plan and purposes for your life.

What I Offer in Christian Counseling

I offer a safe, welcoming, judgment-free space where you can feel free to share what is on your mind and heart. We will spend time talking about the counseling process to make sure you have a positive and productive experience. I will work with you to develop a customized treatment plan to help you reach your personal goals for growth and healing. At times I may incorporate music therapy in our sessions as a healing tool for the soul.

My Approach to Christian Counseling

Because of my faith, I believe humans are made in the image of God and are made up of body, soul, and mind. Secular counselors tend to focus only on the body and mind but fail to recognize that the spirit (soul) is eternal. The benefits of a Christian approach are understanding that all things are possible with God (Matthew 19:26). He wants us to live a life of abundance (John 10:10) and is always with us (Isaiah 41:10).

Biography

Qualifications & Experience

I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) for more than 13 years. I hold a Master of Education in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Texas – Brownsville.

My Call to Christian Counseling

When I was in eighth grade, I recall hearing my father, Jose F. Cervantes, sharing some of his experiences providing Pastoral Counseling not only to his congregation but also to others in the community. I was in awe of his wisdom and his passion to help others. I decided that one day, I too would provide Christian Counseling to those in need. For me, it is not just a career, but a calling; it is my purpose.

More About Me/On a Personal Note

My personal interests and hobbies include singing at my church (I am one of the Worship Leaders), listening to music, going to the beach, reading, and spending quality time with my husband and two adult children.

Individual Counseling

During our individual sessions, I will provide a safe space for you to process your difficult thoughts, emotions, and fears. I will also integrate biblical principles throughout our sessions. Together we will work to identify your counseling goals and determine the best steps forward to facilitate healing and the positive changes you want to see happen in your life.

Anxiety

Philippians 4:6 notes, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy along with other interventions such as grounding oneself with Scripture, prayer, and worship to work towards alleviating those symptoms by identifying the root cause of your anxiety.

Premarital Counseling

Marriage is such a beautiful act of love, but our culture tends to place more emphasis on the wedding day and not on the actual marriage. Premarital counseling is about gaining insight and learning ways to be equipped for the lifelong commitment of marriage. I do this by teaching the tools needed to ensure you go into this next step of life as prepared as you can be, with godly principles at the core.

Counseling for Teens

Life can be challenging, especially as a teenager. Sometimes in spite of your best efforts, you are still overwhelmed. For over 15 years, I have had the honor to work with adolescents with empathy and compassion to provide guidance, validation, and client-focused mental health care. My approach is to walk with you every step of the way as you seek spiritual and emotional wholeness.

Anger Management

I have learned through my work with people who are dealing with anger issues that there tend to be unmet needs and unresolved issues. Throughout our sessions, I will highlight exploration, introspection, healing, and growth toward a healthier and more peaceful life.
