Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God. – Corrie Ten Boom
Pain, injustice, and adversity are all part of living in a fallen, broken world that is not the world God created it to be, but take heart. God will not leave you to flounder on your own. Even when you do not see Him working, you can be sure He is.
Trusting God during your dark times does not mean ignoring your feelings or pretending everything is okay when it is not. What it does mean, is choosing to live a life of faith and obedience to His Word (the Bible) even when it is difficult and coming to Him during your challenges.
Trusting God means believing in His reliability and having the assurance that He is in control, that He loves you unconditionally, that He knows the end from the beginning, and that He has your best interest at heart even when it does not seem that way or things do not turn out as you want them to.
The Bible is full of verses that can help comfort and encourage you, as well as motivate, and inspire you to continue when the going gets tough. The following are some of the most popular ones.
Bible Verses About Trusting God in Difficult Times
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. – Proverbs 3:5-6, ESV
When life happens and difficult times give rise to doubts, instead of trying to take matters into your own hands, trusting God should be your default setting. He sees what you do not see, and when you rely on His wisdom and direction, He will guide you and equip you with whatever you need to handle the challenges you face.
Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved. – Psalm 55:22, ESV
When you are going through a tough time, you do not have to face it alone. The Lord wants you to bring your burdens to Him so He can lift them off you and help you address them.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. – Psalm 46:1, ESV
This verse is a reminder that God is always with you, even in difficult times when it may feel as though He has abandoned you. You can trust Him to be your shelter and give you the strength you need to carry on.
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10, NIV
No matter what life throws at you, God is right there with you in the midst of it all. If you turn to Him for help, He will strengthen you, and keep you from falling.
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” – Mark 10:27, NIV
When doubt starts to creep into your mind, remember that God is in control and that nothing is impossible for Him.
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. NIV
When times are good it is easy to praise God and be thankful, but when times are bad, not so much. This verse is not telling you to thank God for your trials and tribulations but rather to look for something you can be thankful for in the midst of them. God is always present and making Himself known. Focus on the blessings and the moments of grace He is providing along the way.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7, NIV
Do not let anxiety overtake you. The moment it starts to infiltrate your mind, remind yourself that God is bigger than your circumstances, and take your fears to Him in prayer. If you release them to Him and leave them in His hands, He promises to replace them with His peace that surpasses understanding no matter how challenging they seem.
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD himself, is the Rock eternal. – Isaiah 26:3-4, NIV
God is faithful and never changing. He is a solid rock on which you can stand and has given us His Word (the Bible) to attest to His trustworthiness and remind us of His truths when we are in difficult times. If you keep your focus on Him instead of on your problems, He will fill your heart with His peace, no matter how overwhelming these challenges may seem.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28, NIV
No matter how difficult your life may feel right now, if you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you can be sure that God will use your trials for your ultimate good and bring you out stronger on the other side.
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. – John 16:33, NIV
God tells us that we will experience hardships in this world because of Adam and Eve’s sin in the Garden of Eden which caused us to become separated from God (Genesis 3).
However, the Bible also tells us about God’s plan to reverse the effects of the fall and restore us to Himself, by sending Jesus Christ, His only son, into the world to die on the cross so we could be reconciled to Him and receive the gift of eternal life.
Those having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ can have peace despite their trials because they know about the victory Jesus bought for us through His atoning blood, and how the story ends.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” – Revelation 21:3-4, NIV
The afflictions of those who have received God’s gift of salvation and made Jesus Lord of their life are only temporary. A day is coming when there will be no more sickness, pain, or death, and when Jesus Himself will wipe away every tear from our eyes.
