10 Bible Verses to Help You Remember Who You Are in God’s Eyes

It is human nature to be easily enticed or confused by the materialistic and fake society we live in. Unless you remember who you are in the sight of the Lord, you may live your life as a mere shadow of your true self. As the world gets increasingly fast-paced, the lines between what is real and what is false, or who is genuine and who is a pretender, have become blurred.

10 Bible Verses to Help You Remember Who You Are in God’s EyesIt is easy to lose your identity in a world that is getting further away from the original description of the life God had intended for us from the time of creation. The only way to hold on to your original purpose on earth and remember who you are is to align your everyday life with biblical truth.

Thankfully, you have the gift of Scripture, which paints a wonderful picture of how and why God created us and reminds His people of who they are in Him.

Like us if you are enjoying this content.

Who do you think you are?

Which answers do you give first when people ask who you are? If you’re being honest, your answers are probably one or all of the following:

  • Your birth name.
  • Your gender.
  • Your marital status.
  • Your profession.
  • Your interests.
  • Your family.

Technically and lawfully, this is all correct. These are the characteristics that help society distinguish one person from another. This perfectly curated checklist is who you are in the eyes of the government and all those around you.

However, is your legal checklist the sum of who you really are?

Consider the fact that any one of those items listed up there can now be legally altered, renounced, or changed. For example, there are plenty of people who have lived half their lives using one name, then change it for one reason or another, and are called by an entirely different name for the rest of their lives.

The same goes for professions; you could be called a teacher for 20 years of your life, then go to law school or medical school and start being called a lawyer or a doctor.

So, do these items really make you who you are at the end of the day?

You can list all the ways you identify yourself, but all of these have one thing in common: they do not need to stay constant to define you or help you remember who you are. Your true identity has to be rooted in something else that is certain to remain constant.

The Value of Remembering Who You Are in God’s Eyes

Scripture gives us an answer when Jesus Christ is proclaimed as “the same yesterday, today, and forever” in Hebrews 13:8. Furthermore, Acts 11:26 says, “The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.” This term Christian originated right there in Antioch and marked anyone who is a follower of Jesus Christ from then on.

10 Bible Verses to Help You Remember Who You Are in God’s Eyes 2Christ is the perfect example of God’s purpose for man here on earth. God’s purpose for you has never changed, and neither has His Word. If you belong to Christ your identity is that of a child of God.

The next time you feel unsure, despondent, or discouraged about who you are, turn to the word of God to remind yourself of your identity in Christ. Take a moment to reflect on the consistent truths found in Scripture.

10 Bible Verses to Remind You of Who You Are

So God created mankind in his own image; in the image of God, he created them; male and female, he created them. – Genesis 1:27, NIV

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit – fruit that will last. – John 15:16, NIV

Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I set you apart; and I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. – Jeremiah 1:5, NIV

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. – 1 Peter 2:9, ESV

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you? – 1 Corinthians 6:19, NASB

Praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, and I know that full well. – Psalm 139:14, NIV

No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. – Romans 8:37, NIV

The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs – heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. – Romans 8:16, ESV

No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. – John 15:15, NASB

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, and we should walk in them. – Ephesians 2:10, NASB

How to Maintain Your Belief in Who You Are

Many negative and hurtful voices in the world try to speak louder than the voice of God. You need to constantly remind yourself that your self-perception should align with your true identity in Jesus Christ rather than how people make you feel or what you experience.

Do not let your failures and mistakes cause you to settle for less than what God has promised. The only real and sure way to live in stability and security is to understand, acknowledge, and live out who He has created you to be through Christ. This gives you a strong foundation to overcome your insecurities, conquer sin, break down false idols, and walk in confidence.

Our confidence lies in the presence of the Holy Spirit in us and in the love of Christ, which brings us courage and strength through the love of God. Believing what God says about you in His Word is the key to living your life to the fullest without settling for less.

10 Bible Verses to Help You Remember Who You Are in God’s Eyes 1If you have embraced Christ and turned from your sin, your true identity is in Him. Believe what God says and walk by faith. Make a habit of memorizing and reciting one of these ten Bible verses every week or, better yet daily. If you can find even more verses in the Bible about your status as a Christian, add those to the list too! This will help you remember your relationship with Christ and your real purpose of serving Him here on earth.

If you feel overwhelmed or stuck and would like to talk to someone who can help you rediscover who you are in Christ, help is available. As a trained Christian counselor, I am equipped to guide you through the process of self-discovery to solidify your identity in Christ. Call our reception team today to schedule an appointment.
